It’s all about balance! We are constructing our home mobile so to warm up our minds and bodies we began with some more balancing exercises. These are important to incorporate in your daily exercise as they help develop core strength and balance. We stood tall with our hands on hips and slowly rotated our body, drawing out 10 circles with our upper body. Then we stood on one leg while we threw punches across our body alternating between the left and right arms. Finally, we marched on the spot, lifting our knees to hip level while simultaneously swinging alternate arms. This is a good aerobic workout.
Sharing is integral to all our classes and our seniors showed us their houses. Simply beautiful! They added windows and decorated the door, personalizing it with the house number, then added a roof, experimenting with a round one. So Sim cleverly used recycled plastic to create vertical blinds. A small hole was pierced through the rook and 12” of sting was threaded through. They tied a knot in the string to hold it in place then tied the end to a colored tassel of their choosing. Once the string is pulled taut the tassel appears at the base of the house adding a decorative feature and helps to weight the houses on the mobile. Spica and I showed the students alternatives to a tassel, such as a tiny bell or a feather.
Sook Fong chose to make a multi-colored roof, purple under the eaves and red on top. She added a green door and red window frames. Stella also went for the multi-colored roof look, with a circular red roof and a smaller yellow circular roof attached below. She matched this with red framed windows and a pink tassel. Ru Ping really thought outside of the box with her purple round roof sitting on a red square roof. Her door is green with a yellow transom above. Jing Wei made a greenhouse with a red roof and added a red door with a green transom. She made curtains for the windows from paper patterned with bookshelves. Pun created a two-toned green roof and a purple door. Her windows are the most unique featuring lattice and stripes of color. Hui Fen also used lattice work as a feature on her windows and added a yellow trim on the door. So Sim chose purple for the color of her roof and added red window frames. Lao Yu created a “glass” feature in her front door, which was set in a blue shaped frame. Her house has a blue square roof and is finished with a purple tassel. Stella made a green door with a patterned transom above and added red window frames.
Using the skills they learned last week, they made a second house from different textured paper, adding round windows using translucent paper. For homework, they will finish their second house and create a mobile using the small rod included in their material package. We are excited by their inspired choice of colors!
